Carter Farms is home of the "One litre in a really UGLY bottle"
The Carter's have made maple syrup every spring since 1905, When my great grandfather purchased the farm I live on, Luckily it had a maple bush preserved from logging because it was close to the farm buildings. All our current bush lots were purchased between 1905 and 1933 from logging companies after they had been been harvested.
As a point of interest all our syrup production occurs on the Ardtrea Island ANSI (Area of Natural and Special Interest) as identified by the Provincial government. We also own land in the North River Swamp, recently named a Provincialy Significant Wetland. As one of the largest ANSI's in Simcoe County, the Carter's are also the largest single landowners of the Ardtrea Island.
Looking to the future of 2011, you will see us add high pressure steam as a heat source for boiling maple sap. We believe this will enhance our consistency while greatly reducing the labour of stoking a wood fired evaporator, leaving us more time for the finer points of syrup making.
In addition to the Orillia & Barrie Farmers Markets we attend every saturday, we also attend the Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival, Bala Cranberry Festival and Midland Farmers Market on Sunday mornings. We always provide syrup samples at our markets and we hope to have you enjoying some with us this year.
